09 Nov CSU nursing expert backs calls for 24/7 RN exemption at some regional aged care homes
A Charles Sturt University (CSU) academic has backed calls for registered nurses (RNs) not to be on duty around the clock at some of the state’s regional aged care facilities.
This is a great opportunity for us all to work together to ensure that we are bring registered nurses to these areas.
Dr Maree Bernoth, a Wagga Wagga based lecturer in nursing and midwifery, says the recommendation should not mean regional facilities should not aim for the round the clock staffing.
She believes there is scope for collaboration.
“This is a great opportunity for us all to work together to ensure that we are bring registered nurses to these areas, and that we are keeping them there and that we are demonstrating to them that aged care nursing in rural and regional areas is exciting and rewarding,” she said.
